New Zealand Diploma in Transition to Parenting Education

International Close Date: Please enquire

Gain the knowledge required to guide and educate people through the transition to parenting.

Research shows that empowering families to maximise the potential in a child’s first 2000 days has life-long benefits. This two-year, part-time programme will enable you to make a real difference in your community by equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate high quality, new-parent education.

Using blended learning methods, this programme can be studied from anywhere in New Zealand. The average time commitment is 20 hours per week. It includes three, 2-3 day in-person intensives in Christchurch, plus work-based learning placements which can be arranged in your location.

The programme will equip you with knowledge covering pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenting and teach you how to plan, facilitate and deliver parenting education to Ministry of Health standards. In your first year you’ll observe trained facilitators in the workplace, and in your second year you’ll progress to teaching a 10- to 12-hour parent education programme yourself, under supervision.

Upon completion, you’ll be a skilled health promoter and communicator, able to share knowledge and instil confidence in the individuals attending your education sessions.
